A place of work, a place of shelter. Simple, sturdy construction. Readily available materials. Often open to the flow of air and come and go of machinery. Protection from the elements when not in use or during sweaty labors. Interior seldom finished, rudimentary amenities. Countless hours have been spent within, fixing, repairing, pounding into shape, stacking, storing things that will be later needed. A place where injuries have been suffered, angers and frustrations vented. Where sarcasm has been perfected, confrontation avoided, remedies dreamt of and constructed. A place over which men preside and few women choose to linger. Someplace children secretly explore.
