Perhaps not an especially inspired image, but the story is interesting. He's a 27 year old who trades stocks in four international markets. He consults for three foreign firms seeking to import goods into the U.S. and six U.S. firms seeking to export goods internationally. He speaks two languages other than English and is in the process of picking up a third. He finished high school but couldn't afford to attend college. Most everything he knows about making business deals he's picked up reading newspapers, books, and magazine articles in between delivering pizzas seven days a week. He's taken two trips abroad to meet potential clients and check out markets. He's currently saving for a third trip. He's single, lives alone, and seldom dates. Every dollar he makes, he reinvests. Nothing is wasted, nothing is frivolously spent. His business model is based on connecting people with each other for mutual benefit. He expects to be way out ahead of the pack in another six or seven years. Completely true or not, the facts are: that story is a true possibility for almost any young person living today. All any one of them would have to do is make it happen. No guns, no violence, no religion, no begging, no criminal activity involved. Just earnest, disciplined effort and use of one's brain. Where will you be and what will you be doing in six or seven years? |
