A day of rest is always welcomed, especially one that begins with soft light, modest temperature, fragrant vapors, and gentle murmurings. Current projects complete or unavoidably on hold, the mind reflects. Are there loose ends? Perhaps a few. A book, a photograph, a box of stuff set on a shelf. There are many connections. We have left a wake upon the waters through which we've swum. And from that wake we have selected and preserved in mind many memories of our successes. We walk with those in mind throughout our days. But that book, or this photo, or that one object from within that box, they remind us of a few untidy things decidedly not successes. The perfection we have fashioned of ourselves is not perfect. There are faults. We all have faults. On a normal day those faults remain quite out of mind, our confidence reigns. But on such days as this, they may come back to haunt us, rattle the underpinnings of our composure, suggest we might be more swiss cheese than toughened polished rawhide. Can repairs be made? Can we fix our faults, finish what's been left undone, correct a few mistakes? Can some old battles finally be won? Not all. No, not all. But maybe one or two. Nothing better planned, it's time to try. It's time to see. Perhaps with life acquired wisdom a few missed deeds will finally get done. |
